Premier League champions Manchester City’s dispute with the league administration seems to be settling down. The club has reached an agreed sanction agreement with the Premier League administration regarding 22 rule infringements.
This decision comes at a time when City are at war with the league administration. An independent hearing involving senior legal officials representing Manchester City and the Premier League is expected to begin later this year. According to some reports, the start date is November 2024.
City’s rule infringements stem from late kick-offs of matches and second halves. The club was fined £2.09 million for rule breaches at the Etihad Stadium, for which the club apologised.
Premier League made a statement as follows: “The Premier League and Manchester City FC have entered into a sanctions agreement following the club’s admission of breaches of Premier League Rule L.33 relating to kick-off and restart obligations. The breaches relate to a number of Premier League matches in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. The rules on kick-offs and restarts help to ensure the organisation of competitions is conducted to the highest possible professional standard and provide certainty for fans and participating clubs. It also ensures that all 380 League matches around the world are broadcast in accordance with the programme. As required by the Premier League Rules, the sanctions agreement was approved by three members of the Independent Judicial Panel.”
