Ukraine has imposed new sanctions against legal and natural persons from Russia, Iran and China. While President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the relevant decree, the decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine dated 19 September 2024 ‘On the Application of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)’ entered into force.
According to the decree, sanctions will be imposed against six citizens of the Russian Federation, Iran and China for a period of ten years. During the same period, sanctions will be imposed on 40 legal entities from these countries.
These sanctions are specifically related to Iran’s supply of ballistic missiles to Russia. The new package of measures also includes companies involved in the production and supply of Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones, which are actively used by the Russian occupation forces to attack civilian and military targets in Ukraine.
The main element of this sanctions package is the restriction on Iran Air, Iran’s largest airline based in Tehran. This airline carries both passengers and cargo. However, according to experts, despite the rapid reaction of the international community to the possible supply of Fath-360 missiles to Russia, the actions of the sanctions coalition still lack scale and effectiveness.
