Trump announces tariffs on countries buying oil and gas from Venezuela

US President Donald Trump announced that a 25 per cent tariff will be imposed on countries buying oil or gas from Venezuela from 2 April.

In his post on the Truth Social social media account, Trump claimed that Venezuela has deliberately and fraudulently sent tens of thousands of criminals to the United States secretly.

Stating that for many reasons, including this, the application known as the ‘secondary tariff’ to Venezuela will be initiated, Trump also announced another development.

Accordingly, ‘Tren de Aragua’, which is among the gangs sent to the US by the country and defined as a foreign terrorist organisation, is in the process of being returned to Venezuela.

Trump underlined that Venezuela is also hostile to the US and freedoms and said: ‘Therefore, any country that buys oil or gas from Venezuela will have to pay a 25 per cent tariff on all trade with the United States.’

US President Trump announced that the tariff will start to be implemented on 2 April.
