US targets Iranian oil network

The US announced that it has placed some companies that purchase, process and transport Iranian oil on the sanctions list.

According to the US Treasury Department, a China-based ‘teapot’ oil refinery that buys and processes hundreds of billions of dollars worth of crude oil from Iran and its top executive have been added to the sanctions list.

This refinery, which is called ‘teapot’ because it is small-scale and independent, is said to have received oil from some ‘shadow fleet’ ships carrying Iranian oil linked to the Houthis in Yemen and the Iranian Ministry of Defence.

In addition, 19 companies and ships that transport Iranian oil and ship it to ‘teapot’ oil refineries were also included in the sanctions list.

‘The United States is committed to cutting off the revenue streams that enable Tehran to continue to finance terrorism and advance its nuclear programme,’ said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
