South Korea to impose new sanctions on North and Russia

South Korea’s Foreign Ministry has announced new sanctions against 11 individuals and 15 legal entities in connection with ‘illegal military cooperation’ between Russia and North Korea or Pyongyang’s nuclear missile programme.

The ministry noted that this measure was imposed in connection with the joint statement by the foreign ministers of Western countries dedicated to cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

Generals, engineers and officers of the North Korean army are on the list of these new sanctions.

These sanctions will also apply to Verus, PARSEK, Timer Bank and some other organisations.

Thirteen organisations are listed as ‘Russian’, while seven individuals are also on the list.

Seoul has assured that the individuals and companies on this list have assisted in financing and deliveries related to North Korea’s nuclear missile programme.

These sanctions will enter into force on Thursday 19 December.
