The European Union will include a ban on access to Russian propaganda media services in its 16th sanctions package.
Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, who launched an all-out attack and occupation attempt against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, continues to target defenceless civilians, critical infrastructure facilities, health and education institutions.
‘Russian state agency TASS, Zvezda and Red Star, which belong to the Russian Ministry of Defence, pro-Kremlin EADaily, which has been publishing disinformation and fake news for 10 years, pro-Russian Strategic Culture Foundation, Russian publication Lenta.ru, NewsFront, which published pro-Russian news after the occupation of Crimea, RuBaltic, Latvia-based media, which is described as ‘a source of biased content aimed at misinforming the Russian-speaking residents of the Baltic countries’, and SouthFront, media linked to the FSB.’
The decision will remain in force until Russia stops its aggression and disinformation campaigns. EU citizens and companies will be banned from cooperating, advertising, producing content and providing other services to sanctioned media organisations.
