Adani turns away sanctioned tankers

Adani Group, India’s largest private port operator, has banned sanctioned tankers. According to local media reports, Adani Group, India’s largest private port operator, has banned sanctioned tankers from the US, UK, or European Union from entering its ports.

Adani’s port operations in India are focused more on container and dry bulk transport rather than tankers. Analysts say this news will not significantly reduce Russian oil shipments to the world’s most populous country.

However, the group is aware of Washington’s threat of secondary sanctions. Moreover, the US is today asking G7 countries to apply much higher tariffs on Indian and Chinese imports for their purchase of Russian oil.

Last month, the US increased tariffs on imports from India by 50% due to India’s Russian oil purchases, which finally caused refineries in India to reduce their interest in Russian crude oil.
