Britain removes Turkish company from sanctions list

Active Shipping has been removed from UK’s sanctions list for 1 year as part of the sanctions imposed on Russia.

The UK Treasury said that the company was being removed from the list and was no longer subject to an asset freeze. Following the presidential decree that revealed US could initiate sanctions against financial institutions that mediate trade with Russia, many countries, especially EU countries, began to impose sanctions on companies and individuals doing business with Russia.

In this context, in February 2024, England imposed sanctions on four shipping companies on the grounds that they profited from supporting the Russian government by doing business in the energy sector. Active Shipping and Ship Operation Joint Stock Company and Beks Ship Operation Joint Stock Company from Turkey were among the shipping companies that were sanctioned.

At the time the company was listed, Active Shipping & Management was managing 17 ships, 13 of which were tankers, some of which had called at Russian ports following the invasion of Ukraine.
