Spain Imposes 9-Point Sanctions on the Occupying Regime

The Spanish government has implemented a nine-point sanctions package against the occupying regime due to its attacks in Gaza. As part of the decision, occupying ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich are banned from entering the country.

The Spanish government approved and enacted a nine-point sanctions package in a cabinet meeting, citing the humanitarian crisis and the occupying regime’s attacks in Gaza.

Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares stated, “We could not remain silent in the face of so many innocent people being killed in Gaza.” He explained that the package was adopted under the title of “Measures against the genocide in Gaza and support for the Palestinian people.”

The nine-point sanctions package against the occupying regime, titled “Measures against the genocide in Gaza and support for the Palestinian people,” are as follows:
Legal reinforcement of the arms embargo on Israel, in effect since October 2023, and a permanent legal ban on the sale and purchase of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to the country.

  • Prohibition of all ships carrying fuel for the Israeli military from passing through Spanish ports.
  • Banning all official aircraft transporting defense materials to Israel from entering Spanish airspace.
  • Prohibiting entry to Spain for all individuals directly involved in genocide, human rights violations, and war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank.
  • Banning the import of products from illegal settlements in Gaza and the West Bank, combating these occupations, halting the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians, and keeping the two-state solution alive.
  • Limiting consular services provided to Spanish citizens residing in illegal Israeli settlements to the legally required minimum.
  • Strengthening Spain’s support for Palestine by increasing the number of Spanish troops in the European Union Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing and establishing new cooperation projects with the State of Palestine in agriculture, food security, and medical aid.
  • Increasing Spain’s contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) by 10 million euros to assist the people of Gaza.
  • Raising humanitarian aid and cooperation for Gaza to 150 million euros by 2026.

As part of the decision, individuals directly involved in human rights violations in Gaza are also banned from entering Spain. Accordingly, the occupying National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich are barred from entering the country. Albares stated that these individuals would be included in the Schengen information system and that the list would be expanded if necessary.
