The European Union is preparing to impose sanctions on China for sending drone engines to Beijing, disguised as “cooling units,” to support Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
An EU diplomat told Politico that preparations are being made to impose sanctions on China for secretly sending armed drone engines to Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin. Diplomat, who stated that 15 EU member countries have taken a stand against China, commented, “The report is correct and shows that China’s role has increased in both quantity and quality. It is fair to say that without China’s support, the war would look very different right now.”
The unnamed diplomat noted that sanctions would be on the agenda after August.
According to information given to the Reuters news agency by three European officials, China supplied its own drone engines to Russia, labeled as “industrial cooling units,” to avoid detection due to Western sanctions. The shipment was reportedly made secretly through shell companies to a state-owned drone manufacturer in Russia.
