Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic shared the official document sent to Serbia by the US Treasury Department on his social media account, stating that the US sanctions against the Serbian Oil Industry under the management of Russian ‘Gazprom Neft’ were postponed until 28 March.
Vucic said, “We have 30 more days for NIS. This is good news for the people of Serbia.”
In the news in the national media, it was stated that the sanctions decision should take effect as of this morning.
In the statement made by the US Treasury Department on 10 January, it was stated that comprehensive steps were taken to fulfil the G7 commitment to reduce Russia’s energy revenues, and it was announced that Russia’s two major oil producers and exporters, Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, and their subsidiaries were included in the sanctions list.
NIS, a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft, was also included in the sanctions list.
Serbia had requested a 90-day postponement from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department at the beginning of February, stating that they needed time to realise the changes requested by the US for NIS.
