New sanctions against Belarus from the USA, Canada and the UK

The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against individuals and entities in Belarus that support Russia’s war in Ukraine through military funding and production of goods.

The sanctions, imposed on a total of 19 individuals, 14 entities and one aircraft, reportedly target individuals who circumvented sanctions on behalf of Belarusian defence organisations and provided income to individuals in the inner circle of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

One of the organisations reportedly targeted is Peleng, a leading Belarusian company producing components for spacecraft, satellites and military vehicles, which the ministry describes as an important industrial partner for Russia.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly also announced that Ottawa will impose sanctions on 10 individuals and 6 Belarusian organisations ‘for their involvement in ongoing and systematic human rights violations in Belarus’.
