US President Donald Trump threatened sanctions against BRICS countries this time. Trump announced that if the BRICS countries create the BRICS currency, ‘100 per cent’ tariffs will be applied to these countries.
Stating that he will ask for a commitment from the BRICS countries that they will not create a new BRICS currency or support another currency that can replace the US dollar, Trump announced that ‘otherwise he will impose 100 per cent tariffs on these countries’ and that these countries will not be able to export to the USA.
Trump argued that the BRICS countries are ‘trying to move away from the dollar’ and that ‘the US will not stand by and watch this’, stating that these countries can find themselves another ‘sucker nation’. Arguing that BRICS has no chance of replacing the US dollar in international trade or anywhere else, Trump said, ‘Any country that tries this should say hello to tariffs and goodbye to the US.’
