US imposes new sanctions on Iran’s shadow fleet

The US administration imposed sanctions on more than 30 individuals and vessels in various countries for intermediating in the sale and transport of Iranian oil-related products.

In a statement made by the US Treasury Department, it was reported that additional sanctions were imposed on Iran’s shadow fleet as part of the ‘maximum pressure campaign’.

It was stated that more than 30 people and ships in various countries were added to the sanctions list on the grounds that they mediate the sale and transport of Iranian oil-related products.

The sanctioned vessels are responsible for the transport of tens of millions of barrels of crude oil worth hundreds of millions of dollars, the statement said, adding that the sanctioned persons include oil brokers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hong Kong, tanker operators and managers in India and China, the president of the National Iranian Oil Company and the Iranian Oil Terminals Company.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Iran continues to rely on a shadowy network of ships, shippers and brokers to facilitate oil sales and finance destabilising activities.

‘The United States will use all tools at our disposal to target all aspects of Iran’s oil supply chain, and anyone doing business with Iranian oil is exposed to significant sanctions risks,’ Bessent said.
