South Korea lifted sanctions imposed on Russia on some medical equipment. South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated that sanctions deactivated as of 28 February.
In the statement, it was stated that the pre-export licensing requirement for medical equipment was partially removed and a simpler document submission process was started. In this context, the export of equipment such as X-ray machines and radiation imaging devices for medical diagnostic purposes to Russia has been brought in line with normal standards.
It was stated that the decision was taken upon the requests of exporters in South Korea. It was stated that the devices in question are ‘unlikely to be used for military purposes’.
Due to the Ukraine war, which started in 2022 with the Kremlin’s attacks, South Korea restricted the supply of strategic technologies such as semiconductor chips, computers and lasers, as well as naval and aviation equipment to Russia.
