The UK Foreign Office spokesperson said in a written statement that sanctions on 24 Syrian entities, including the Central Bank of Syria, Syrian Arab Airlines and energy companies, which were previously used to finance the Assad regime’s repression of the Syrian people, have been lifted.
‘This underscores our determination to help the Syrian people rebuild their country and their economy, including through support for a Syrian-led and hosted political transition. We will continue to judge the interim (government) authorities in Syria by their actions.’
The statement noted that sanctions against members of the Assad regime and those involved in the illegal captagon trade will remain in force.
