The White House announced that US President Donald Trump will sign an executive order that will lift sanctions on Syria.
White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt spoke at the daily press briefing. Leavitt, who stated that Trump will sign an executive order to end the US sanctions program on Syria as of today, said, “This is an effort to support and encourage the country’s path to stability and peace.”
Speaking about the executive order, Leavitt said, “The executive order lifts sanctions on Syria while ensuring that sanctions continue against former President (Bashar) Assad and his supporters, human rights abusers, individuals associated with chemical weapons activities, ISIS and affiliated organizations, and proxies of Iran.”
Leavitt, who spoke with Trump during his Middle East trip to Syria’s new leader and discussed the sanctions in the words of people he met with, said the president is committed to supporting a peaceful Syria with his friends and neighbors.
