Indian company among dozen sanctioned by US

An Indian shipping firm was among dozens of companies sanctioned by the US for allegedly transporting Iranian oil for sale to buyers in Asia, days after restrictions were imposed on Iran’s energy trade in response to its 1 October attack on Israel.

The US State Department alleged that India-based Gabbaro Ship Services, as technical manager of the crude oil tanker Hornet, was involved in the transport of Iranian oil and knowingly made a significant transaction to transport oil from Iran as part of the ‘Ghost Fleet’.

The latest US sanctions against various companies around the world come in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel on 1 October.

‘This attack targeted Tel Aviv, Israel’s most populous city, and could have killed hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent people,’ said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
