Canada sanctions 76 individuals and organisations linked to Russia

Canada has expanded sanctions against Russia. In a statement made by the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office, it was stated that 76 individuals and organisations, including senior Russian government officials and oligarchs, who provide support to the Russian defence industry, who are involved in the forced transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia, were included in the sanctions list in order to maintain pressure on the Moscow administration.

It was stated that Canada took action against Russia’s shadow fleet by sanctioning 109 ships due to their role in the transfer of sanctioned goods, including hydrocarbons.

92 of the ships were oil tankers, 9 were LNG ships, and 8 were ships carrying weapons and other materials from Iran and North Korea to Russia.

It was emphasised that Canada imposed sanctions on more than 3,000 individuals and organisations that violated Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and were complicit in gross and systematic human rights violations.
