The head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs says that Russian entrepreneurs are cautious in relations with the West, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
The president of the association, Aleksandr Shohin, says that although sanctions against Russia are being imposed quickly, they will be lifted gradually. According to him, US President-elect Donald Trump is emotional and unpredictable: ‘What many people expect from him is that he will fulfil his promise not to start or support new wars and to end old ones.’
‘Russian companies are focussed on developing relations with Asia-Pacific, Africa and Latin America, whose economies are growing faster than those of Europe and the US,’ Shohin said, adding, ’We must remember that diversification is more profitable in any case. You cannot put all your eggs in one basket.’
