UK sanctions Iran shipping company

The UK imposed sanctions on Iran’s national airline Iran Air and the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Company (IRISL) on the grounds that Iran transferred unmanned aerial vehicles to Russia.

In a written statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was announced that the assets of Iran Air and IRISL companies will be frozen due to their role in the supply of weapons to Russia.

With this decision, it was stated that Iran Air’s direct scheduled commercial air services to and from the UK will be further restricted.

In the statement, it was noted that the decision in question will also include transport sanctions.

‘Iran’s attempts to undermine global security are dangerous and unacceptable,’ said UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

The EU included IRISL and its director Mohammad Reza Khiabani and the Russian shipping companies MG Flot, VTS Broker and Arapax, which are said to have transported weapons and ammunition, including UAV components, across the Caspian Sea to supply Russian troops.

Minister Lammy reiterated his call for Iran to stop its support for Russia.

On 14 October, the European Union imposed sanctions on certain individuals and entities in Iran, including airline companies, for the transfer of drones and missiles from Iran to Russia.

On the same day, the UK announced sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities due to Iran’s missile attack on Israel on 1 October.
