Sanctions are imposed amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. The US imposes sanctions on individuals and companies allegedly involved in arms procurement and smuggling for the Houthis.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller announced the sanctions, which were imposed for their alleged role in facilitating the supply and smuggling of weapons for the Houthi group in Yemen. The sanctions target an individual and three companies accused of supplying dual-use and military-grade materials for the production and deployment of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that ‘threaten the interests’ of the US and its allies, the spokesperson said.

The US also sanctioned an entity linked to ‘illicit commercial shipments by the Houthis’ and two of its vessels, one of which allegedly transported goods on behalf of the Houthi financial network and entities affiliated with the Iranian military, Miller said.
